There are two kinds of people in this world.
The people who skip straight past House Hunters International…
…and the people who sit there thinking, “I wonder what I could get for that price?”
I’ve always been the second person.
There’s something fascinating about seeing how people live in different countries. The different styles of homes, the neighbourhoods, the little details that make a place feel completely different from anywhere else.
And now…
I’m living my own episode.
Except this time, the cameras aren’t following us.
You’re coming along with me.
Yes… We’re Moving Countries Again
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know this isn’t our first international move.
In fact, we’ve moved countries three or four times now, and every move has taught us something new.
When we left South Africa years ago, we packed our lives into just two suitcases and took a leap of faith.
That decision changed everything.
Since then we’ve lived in different countries, experienced different cultures, learned how to adapt, and discovered that “home” isn’t always a place. Sometimes it’s simply wherever your family is.
Now we’re getting ready for another adventure.
This time…
Curaçao.
The funny thing is that people often think moving abroad gets easier after you’ve done it once.
In some ways it does.
You know what paperwork to expect.
You know there will be stressful days.
You know that eventually everything settles down.
But every country is different.
Every move comes with its own surprises.
And every move means starting another chapter.
My Feelings Right Now?
If I’m being completely honest…
I’m feeling a mixture of everything.
Excited.
Nervous.
Grateful.
A little overwhelmed.
Probably all within the same hour.
Leaving somewhere you’ve lived is emotional.
Even when you’re excited about where you’re going next.
The Netherlands has given our family so much.
We’ve made memories here that we’ll never forget.
But we’ve always believed life is meant to be lived with open hands.
Sometimes that means staying.
Sometimes it means moving.
And for us…
It’s time for another adventure.
Why Curaçao?
People keep asking why we chose Curaçao.
Honestly…
There isn’t just one answer.
It’s the sunshine.
The slower pace of life.
The beautiful Caribbean water.
The friendly people.
The Dutch influence mixed with island culture.
The opportunity to build a different kind of lifestyle.
And yes…
I won’t complain about swapping cold winters for tropical weather.
The House Hunt Begins
House hunting is one of my favourite parts of moving. Maybe that sounds strange. Most people find it stressful.
I actually find it exciting. Every property tells a story. Some houses look amazing in the photos but feel completely different in real life. Others don’t photograph well at all…
…and end up being your favourite. That’s why I wanted to bring you along. Instead of only showing you the perfect house after we’ve found it, I thought it would be far more fun to show you the whole process.
The good houses.
The disappointing houses.
The expensive ones.
The bargains.
The “absolutely not” houses.
Everything.

Renting in Curaçao Isn’t Quite What I Expected
One thing I’ve already learned is that renting in Curaçao is very different from renting in Europe. Prices vary enormously depending on where you want to live. Some homes look incredibly affordable until you realise what’s included… or what’s missing.
Others cost more but include things that could save money in the long run.
As we view different properties, I’ll be sharing:
- Rental prices
- What you get for your money
- The neighbourhoods
- What I love
- What I don’t love
- The little details you only notice once you’re actually there
Hopefully this helps anyone who’s thinking about making the move themselves.
The Logistics Nobody Talks About
Moving countries isn’t just about finding a nice house. There’s so much happening behind the scenes.
Things like:
- Deciding what furniture is worth shipping.
- Figuring out what to sell before you leave.
- Choosing what fits into your new home.
- Working through endless paperwork.
- Organising the kids through another big life change.
- Trying to stay calm while everything around you feels uncertain.
It’s exciting… but it’s also a lot. I want this series to show the real side of international relocation—not just the highlight reel.
Because if you’re thinking about moving abroad one day, it’s helpful to know what the process actually looks like.
Why Flexible Income Matters
People often ask how we’re able to make moves like this. The answer isn’t that we’re lucky.
It’s that over the years we’ve worked hard to build income that isn’t tied to one physical location. That’s something I’m incredibly passionate about helping other people do too. Especially South Africans who feel like they want more options.
Whether you eventually move abroad or stay exactly where you are, having income that you can earn online gives you freedom.
Freedom to choose.
Freedom to travel.
Freedom to say yes to opportunities that might otherwise feel impossible.
For me, that’s what this journey has always been about.
Not escaping life.
